Railway cancels several trains in Sealdah division on December 28-29
A tragic incident has been reported from Malda's Maltipur Kalibari area. At around 7 am, locals stumbled upon the half-burnt body of a woman in a mango orchard, a spot frequented by picnickers during the season. The identity of the woman remains unknown. Her partially burnt body was found alongside gold earrings and shoes, which police have collected as evidence.
Locals suspect the woman may have been raped or gang-raped before being murdered and her body set on fire. The area, under the jurisdiction of Chanchal police station, is a popular destination for visitors, especially during winter. Police suspect the woman might have been brought from outside and killed in the orchard.
Signs of a struggle were evident at the scene. The woman’s disheveled clothing, bloodstains, and other indications suggest a violent encounter. Dry straw was allegedly spread over her body and set alight. Residents of the typically peaceful area are in shock, with many stating such an incident is unprecedented. Police have begun an investigation, collecting forensic evidence and examining CCTV footage from the region to trace the culprits.
